Polanica-Zdrój – town and spa; an important tourist place. According to the geographical division of the mountains, it is located in the Middle Sudetes, in the Klodzko Valley and on the two major geographical units: Bystrzyca Mountains and Table Mountains. The informal boundary between them is a river that flows through Polanica – Bystrzyca Dusznicka River.
Administrative Town Borders
The administrative town borders reach the national road nr 8. Next, it runs through the following mountains: Lipnik (541 m asl), Piekielny Kamień, Mount Kamienna , Wolarz. Then it turns in the direction of Sokolowka and Nowy Wielislaw, then it passes through the Hill of Maria and arrives to the road nr 8.
Climate
The geographic location influence the climate a lot. Winter is rather mild in this part of the basin and the summer is quite sunny and warm. The annual precipitation is about 682 mm. The highest monthly precipitation is in July (102 mm), however it is the warmest month of a year. The coldest month in February with the average temperature is about - 4°Celsius. The lowest average precipitation is in January and October.
Flora
The slopes of the mountains that hem in Polanica, are covered with the forest. The spruce is a dominant tree here, however there is quite a lot of beeches, sycamores, firs, mountain ashes and larches. The fir covers mostly barren soils made of sandstones and marls of the Table Mountains: Szczytnik, Piekielna Góra. On the Hill of Maria is also quite a lot of birch. The Bystrzyca Mountains (Wolarz and its area) are covered with the monoculture of spruce. These trees dominate in all Sudetes in general – they were planted in XVIII century, after the massive deforestation, that was a must for local “mountainous” ironworks created here and in many other places in these mountains. On the wet surfaces of Sokolowka one can meet quite a lot of grey alder. On some of the local meadows we cam find a symbol of Klodzko Basin – Globe Flowe. . There is a great diversity of plants on the Sokolowka and Pokrzywno meadows – among the others we can find here some Orchid species, Meadow Saffron, Plume Thistle, Snake Root, Carline Thistle, Bellflower, Snowdrop, Primrose, Lily-of-the-valley, Rhododendron
